A straight line is just a straight line. Pretty meaningless, right? Add two little strokes at the end, and suddenly it has a direction, a purpose, and a job to do. Congratulations, you’ve invented an arrow. 😂
But that’s the thing about art and design. It’s not just about drawing random lines, making things look pretty, or chasing aesthetics. If it doesn’t communicate something, tell a story, or serve a purpose, then what exactly are we designing? Just expensive-looking confusion?
And here’s the funny part: even an arrow can do its job wrong if you place it in the wrong direction or position it where people can’t see it. The design might look perfect on paper, but if it leads people the wrong way, it has failed at the one thing it was supposed to do.
That’s where the artist’s brain comes in. It’s not just about knowing which lines to draw, but where to draw them, which way to point them, and how people will actually interact with them.
Art isn’t just about making things look good. It’s about making them mean something.
Otherwise, mate, it’s just a few lines. 😌
